Horse Sunday in St Neots, 19th September 1953 - parade passing Woolworths

Horse Sunday was an annual event (now seldom observed) at which all local riders would assemble on St Neots Common and then proceed to the Market Square where a Vicar or Minister would conduct a short service and bless the equines and riders.  This picture shows the two riders (on the far left) are Susan Bartlett (daughter of the Butcher in Huntingdon Street) on ’Smokey’ and next to her is Carol Hoefkens (Pettitt now) on ’Queenie’. Photograph by George Page. The parade is passing Woolworths (Iceland in 2014)
